WHAT WE DO
OUR PROGRAMS
Education
A. Higher Education Support.
The project is designed to support and empower refugee students from Kakuma between
the ages of 18 to 30 years who have completed secondary school, to apply for
undergraduate[2] scholarships within Kenya and abroad. Over the years, there has been
limited access to information, resources and application support for refugees seeking
higher education. The project aims to bridge those gaps by offering tailored guidance on
the application process, and increasing information and awareness on the available
opportunities for refugees.
According to the UNHCR report (2024) as of April, the estimated number of forcibly
displaced persons stood at 120 million. Among these estimates, this school-aged refugee
population stood at 14.8 million out of these estimates 49% are estimated to be out of
school. Data from the hosting countries shows that only 7% of refugees are enrolled in
higher education globally. This underrepresentation highlights the need for targeted
initiatives that support refugee students in overcoming obstacles to education access. This
project is vital for guiding refugees in need to pursue university education which is a key
factor in improving their socio-economic prospects and those of their communities.
B. English Language
The project is designed to provide English language training to school dropout girls and
women in the camp. It aims to equip participants with the skills needed to express
themselves both verbally and in writing, thereby increasing their confidence, self-esteem,
and prospects for vocational training and employment opportunities. Given that English is
widely used in academic, professional, and social settings in Kenya and globally, this
project addresses the language barriers that hinder women and girls from accessing
opportunities and fully participating in their communities.
Livelihoods
Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy empowers refugee youth and women with essential skills, while Leadership training, Computer Literacy, and Data Analytics prepare them for future opportunities.
Environmental Management
Enhances resilience and promotes sustainable practices to mitigate climate change impacts, specifically targeting vulnerable populations affected by floods, droughts, and environmental degradation.
Advocacy
Empowers refugees to advocate for their rights and ensures their inclusion in decision-making processes, enabling them to participate in solutions that impact their lives.
STRATEGIC GOALS
Our program primarily focuses on supporting refugee and host community youth, aged 18 to 35, who are eager to rebuild their lives and create lasting change.
- Promote Environmental Management and Climate Resilience We engage communities in sustainable practices such as reforestation, water conservation, and waste management to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change
- Expand Access to Tertiary Education for Refugees By partnering with scholarship providers and offering application workshops and mentorship, we aim to increase access to higher education for refugee youth
- Strengthen Partnerships and Ensure Organizational Sustainability We will maintain and expand collaborations with donors, NGOs, Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs), and community leaders to ensure the sustainability of our work.
- Empower Refugees with Digital and Technological Skills Equip refugees with digital and data analytics skills to enhance their employability in today’s digital world.
- Advocate for the full inclusion of refugees in policy formulation at local, national, and
international levels. Through capacity-building and leadership programs, our goal is to support 100 refugee leaders by 2027, empowering them to represent their communities and influence decisions that impact their lives.
