ADVOCACY PROGRAM
At ICI, we believe in the principle: “Nothing About Us Without Us” as articulated in the International Day of Disabled Persons in 2004. We advocate for the full inclusion of refugees in decision-making processes related to the issues that impact their lives. By empowering refugees with leadership skills and engaging them in platforms to voice their needs, we ensure that solutions are driven by them.
Our Strategy
Advocacy
We advocate for meaningful inclusion of refugees and displaced persons in decision-making for projects aimed at improving the welfare of refugees. We believe that involving refugees throughout the lifespan of such a project increases the likelihood of project success and sustainability in addressing the problems at hand as well as elevating the impact of the project on the people. We therefore advocate for dismantling of barriers to
the participation of refugees and displaced persons across all levels of decision-making and
institutions.
Capacity Building
We are aware that enabling affected populations to formulate solutions to problems they
face is crucial. We have therefore designed our leadership and mentorship programs
through which we build the capacity of displaced youths to address the most pressing
challenges their communities face. We believe the skills they will gain through our leadership programs will not only enable them to respond appropriately to current problems as they rebuild their lives but also go back to their home countries and drive the change they need.
Collaboration
We encourage building partnerships with refugee-led organizations. The partnerships will build the capacity of refugee-led institutions and provide resources to finance refugee
initiatives. Thus, facilitating refugees’ and displaced persons’ access to financial and capacity-building resources as they aspire to address issues that affect their communities
